My name is Mia Andrew and I am a marine biologist and underwater explorer currently in San Diego California. I specialize in marine conservation, biodiversity, and ocean acidification, with a particular interest in elasmobranch research and ocean acidification effects on their movements. I am passionate about the marine environment, conservation, and the life living in our oceans.
I recently received my MSc in Marine Biology with the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. I spend most of my time in the ocean through my hobbies of scuba diving, freediving, and underwater photography. I am a certified Open Water scuba diver and AAUS Scientific Diver. I have interests in traveling, photography, and sharks! My love for the ocean started as a kid. There was something so compelling about the ocean and the animals living in it. I always took a special interest in sharks because of how much people feared them. I chose to study marine biology to gain a better understanding of the natural world and how I can help save our worlds creatures.
Having worked in South Africa, The Bahamas, the Gulf of Mexico, and Miami, I have spent a lot of time studying various species of sharks. My goal is to change the public’s perception on sharks and inspire them to protect them and our precious oceanic ecosystems.
